Ayodhya 1 Day Itinerary 2026 — See Ram Mandir & Top Temples in One Day
Complete 1-day Ayodhya itinerary: morning Ram Mandir darshan, Hanuman Garhi, Kanak Bhawan, Saryu aarti at Ram Ki Paidi. Hour-by-hour plan with timings and tips.
Before you arrive — night-before checklist
One-day trips fail when pilgrims arrive unprepared. Do this the day before:
- Sugam Darshan e-pass booked for 7:00–9:00 AM slot
- Hotel within 2 km of Ram Mandir (even if only for luggage storage)
- Phone left at hotel — not in your pocket
- Aadhaar/passport in a small wallet
- Traditional clothes laid out — kurta-pajama or saree
- Light breakfast planned — kachori shops open from 6 AM on Ram Path
Day-trippers from Lucknow or Gorakhpur: take the first morning train (6:00–7:00 AM departure) to reach Ayodhya Dham by 8:00–9:00 AM.
6:30–10:00 AM — Ram Mandir darshan
This is the anchor of your day. Everything else schedules around it.
If you have Sugam pass: Arrive 20 minutes before your slot. Locker → security → Sugam queue. Expect 60–90 minutes total on a weekday.
Without Sugam pass: Arrive by 6:30 AM for the shortest general queue. Budget 2–3 hours on weekdays, longer on weekends.
Inside the complex, you will pass through:
- Outer prakaram with Nagara shikhara views
- Security and shoe deposit
- Queue corridor with chants of "Jai Shri Ram"
- Garbhagriha — darshan of the 51-inch Ram Lalla idol
- Prasad counter at exit

10:30–11:30 AM — Hanuman Garhi
Tradition first: Many pilgrims visit Hanuman Garhi before Ram Mandir. On a one-day schedule, doing it after darshan still works — the hilltop temple is 1.2 km from Ram Mandir (5 min auto).
- Climb 76 steps to the hilltop shrine
- Darshan of Hanuman in child form (Baal Hanuman)
- Panoramic view over Ayodhya's temple skyline
- Allow 45–60 minutes including queue
Hanuman Garhi opens at 5:00 AM — early birds can swap this with Ram Mandir if their Sugam slot is later.

12:00–1:30 PM — Kanak Bhawan + lunch
The "Golden Temple" dedicated to Rama and Sita is 0.8 km from Hanuman Garhi — walkable or a ₹20 e-rickshaw ride.
- Ornate gold-plated interiors and continuous bhajan
- Typically shorter queues than Ram Mandir
- 30–45 minutes for darshan
Lunch: Sattvic thali houses on Ram Path serve Maharaja thali (₹150–250). Pure vegetarian, no onion-garlic at most pilgrim eateries. Try kachori-sabzi if you skipped breakfast.
Guide: Kanak Bhawan
2:00–4:00 PM — Optional heritage stops
If energy permits, pick one or two — do not try all on a one-day schedule:
| Site | Time needed | Distance from Kanak Bhawan |
|---|---|---|
| Dashrath Mahal | 30 min | 0.5 km |
| Sita Ki Rasoi | 20 min | Adjacent to Ram Mandir complex |
| Ram Katha Museum | 45 min | 2.5 km |
Skip if tired: Rest at the hotel. The evening aarti is the second highlight of the day and worth conserving energy for.
5:00–7:00 PM — Ram Ki Paidi & Saryu aarti
The perfect one-day finale. Ram Ki Paidi is Ayodhya's iconic stepped ghat on the Saryu river.
| Time | What happens |
|---|---|
| 5:30 PM | Arrive, find a spot on the steps facing the river |
| 6:00 PM | Priests begin preparations; diyas lit along the ghat |
| 6:30 PM | Sandhya Aarti — bells, conch, lamps reflected in the Saryu |
| 7:00 PM | Light show (check timings) on select evenings |
Optional: Saryu snan (holy dip) before aarti if you arrived early enough to change — many pilgrims wade in at knee depth from the steps.
7:30 PM — Departure or overnight
Day-trippers: Evening trains to Lucknow (5:30–8:00 PM departures) and Gorakhpur are available — check IRCTC. Last-minute auto to Ayodhya Dham station: ₹50–80.
Staying overnight: Unlocks a second-morning Mangala Aarti attempt (pass required), relaxed parikrama, or a day trip to Naimisharanya the next day.
One day vs two days — should you extend?
| 1 day | 2 days | |
|---|---|---|
| Ram Mandir + top temples | Yes | Yes, more relaxed |
| Saryu ghats & aarti | Evening only | Morning + evening |
| Parikrama / museums | Skip | Possible |
| Stress level | High | Moderate |
| Best for | Lucknow/Gorakhpur day trips | Delhi/Mumbai pilgrims |
If you can add even one night, use our official 2-day itinerary — the difference in experience is significant.
One-day packing list
- Government photo ID
- Small wallet (₹500 cash)
- Water bottle (up to locker point)
- Handkerchief
- Slip-on footwear (removed frequently)
- No phone for temple visits
