Kanak Bhawan ('Palace of Gold') is one of Ayodhya's most breathtaking architectural gems. According to the Ramayana, Queen Kaikeyi gifted this splendid palace to Mata Sita immediately after her wedding to Lord Rama as her private residence in Ayodhya.
The sanctum houses three pairs of Rama-Sita idols: the smallest traditionally gifted by Lord Krishna to Rukmini, the medium pair installed by King Vikramaditya, and the largest installed during Queen of Orchha's 1891 reconstruction.
