Guptar Ghat is one of Ayodhya's most spiritually significant sites, believed to be where Lord Rama took Jal Samadhi (entered the Saryu river) to return to his eternal abode. The name 'Guptar' means 'secret' or 'hidden,' referring to the mysterious nature of this divine event.
Located about 8 km from the main city in Faizabad direction, this ghat offers a quieter, more contemplative atmosphere compared to the bustling Ram Ki Paidi. A temple dedicated to Lord Rama stands at the ghat, and devotees perform pind daan (ancestral rites) here.
Visitor tips
- Best visited early morning for peaceful darshan and holy snan in the Saryu.
- Hire an auto or e-rickshaw from Ram Mandir area (₹150-200 round trip).
- Combine with visits to nearby Mani Parvat and Sugriv Parvat for a half-day heritage circuit.
- Carry drinking water and snacks - fewer food options compared to central Ayodhya.
