Honouring spiritual teachers
Countdown
to Guru Purnima
Loading countdown…
Devotees offer gratitude to their gurus at Ayodhya's temples and akharas.
Guru Purnima, observed on the full moon of Ashadha, honours spiritual teachers and the guru-shishya tradition central to Ayodhya's many temples and akharas. Devotees visit their gurus, offer respects to lineage-holders, and attend special pujas.
Ayodhya's temples and monastic akharas hold guru-shishya ceremonies through the day - a quieter, more contemplative occasion than the city's larger festivals.
Pilgrim tips
Visit Hanuman Garhi or Kanak Bhawan in the morning for special guru-shishya pujas.
